Choosing The Best Construction Crew and Contractor

The Cheapest Way To Make Your Window More Efficient

Homeowners in hot climates are always trying to figure out ways to make their homes a little more energy efficient. Windows are perhaps the most vulnerable part of your home when it comes to maintaining the temperature. Whether you live in a hot or cold climate, leaky windows can make it much harder to keep your house exactly how you want it. Unfortunately, a full-scale window replacement is beyond the budget of most property owners. Luckily, there are a few simple ways that you can make your property more energy efficient. Applying window films is one simple and cheap way to greatly improve the efficiency of your windows.

Tinted Films

When considering window films, most people think of tinted films, like those used on car windows. Tinted films are very effective in hot, sunny climates. These are very effective, but might not be necessary on every fixture throughout your home. In fact, some people try to avoid tints because they block light coming into the room, making it a little darker, and reducing clarity through the glass. Windows with tinted film might look a little blurry. In the end, tinted window film should only be placed on glass panes that receive direct sunlight. For the rest of the windows in your house, you can add clear films that are purely helpful with insulation.

Non-Tinted Films

Window films also work extremely great in colder climates. These essentially add to the insulation of the glass. Furthermore, you can add film to both sides of the glass for maximum efficiency. The best part about this job is that you can do it yourself, and you don't need any special tools.

Window films come in little packages that include everything you need for the job except for the utility knife. Basically, the film is adhered to the glass using the liquid adhesive that is provided. You squeegee the film flat onto the glass and get out all the air bubbles, then you cut the edges away using a utility knife. This job is obviously very simple, but a little harder to do on the outside of windows, especially those on the second story.

For less than $100, window films can help reduce heat loss throughout your home and tinted films can protect your rooms from the sun. It is probably one of the cheapest, yet most effective ways to improve the efficiency of your window fixtures.
